I Started Writing

They say sleep is the cousin of death; as I retire to my bed, my mind is no longer a storm. These days, I could never write during the day—not code, not poems, nor a carefully thought-out prompt. I dare not waste time processing the streams of thought; beautiful poems and epiphanies go amiss.

I miss the voice of my inner child; I try to swim ashore from the riptide, pulling my youth into the deep blue sea... but that ain't nothing deep. I speak in waves, but they never find their way back to me 'cause I don't listen; just pressure down, pressure down when I double down, cussing out machines but not listening...

I started writing to remind myself that "the end justifies the means"; the means are usually unclear and not straightforward. I started writing so I could listen to myself more.
